Elementary Gifted Education Program(EGP)


Elementary Gifted Program Mission:
The Sioux Falls School District’s Gifted Program’s mission is to recognize, educate and prepare gifted learners to pursue and develop their potential.

Program Goals:
· Provide appropriately challenging instructional experiences.
· Support interaction between intellectual peers.
· Foster the development of skills for independent learning.
· Encourage the awareness of one’s potential in society.

The Elementary Gifted Program service options include:
  1. Home Attendance Center- School-Based Services include one or more of the following components:

  • Science Send-Out-The science send-out program will correlate with the standards-based curriculum being used in the classroom and will also provide enrichment. Teachers in the gifted program will incorporate technology, building-wide enrichment and in depth projects into their units. Groupings may be multiage, comprised of identified students.

  • Mathematics-Teachers in the Elementary Gifted Program will serve as facilitators for math instruction for identified gifted students. The principal, gifted program teacher and classroom teachers will facilitate acceleration and enrichment options to appropriately serve identified students.

  • Counseling/Guidance-Teachers in the Elementary Gifted Program may need to lead support or intervention groups with students who are struggling socially and/or emotionally due to academic issues. School counselors and classroom teachers will be included in planning for specific students’ needs.

2. Full-time Placement Option-Challenge Center
